Improving Durability of RC Structures using Corrosion Mitigation Techniques and Nanotechnology


Abstract

Corrosion of reinforcing steel is the most frequent reason of failure of concrete structures. The control measures include conventional methods patch repair and protective coatings, and electrochemical treatment like cathodic protection/prevention (CP). In the proposed work, attempts will be made to enhance durability of reinforced concrete through use of corrosion mitigation techniques such as cost effective CP system and use of nanomaterials.


Description of Projectidea

Durability enhancement of steel reinforced concrete structures. Development of cost effective cathodic protection / prevention techniques for corrosion mitigation to enhance durability of reinforced concrete. Experimental evaluation through various electrochemical, non- destructive testing and microstructural studies. Development of numerical model for optimizing the adopted techniques. Optimization of dose of nano-silica for achieving desired durability of concrete.
